Sam Bartram was the best uncapped goalkeeper ever. He kept goal for Charlton for almost 20 years between 1936 and 1955. He was my Granddad John's good friend and was best man when Granddad married my Nan in the early 1950s. He later managed York City and died in 1981 at the age of 67. There is now a statue at the Valley in his honour.
He had a daughter called Moira as well. She unveiled the statue when it had been erected a couple of years ago.
In awe of an absolute legend
Hiya Sam. Never had the pleasure of meeting you unfortunately. From what my Granddad tells me you were an absolute diamond and a lovely man. I wish I could have met you but I wasn't born until four years after you died. I hope you are OK wherever you are. You are probably organising the other Charlton lads that are with you into a team for a kick about.
What I have seen on DVDs and videos, you were the best. Thank you for being a great friend to my Granddad. I know my Nanny Phyl is safe with you.
From a great fan, Domine xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
